Stagen Ibu
Native to Indonesia, our Stagen
Ibu is from the culturally rich town of Jogjakarta, also fondly
known as Jogja.
The Stagen Ibu is a long narrow
strip of cloth traditionally used by Indonesian women around the
waist, after childbirth. Believed to aid in preventing the descending
of the uterus and helping post-pregnant bellies get back in form
faster. When bound snug from the hip up to the upper abdomen, even
mothers today believe it helps in their bodies' natural recovery
from water retention.
Made of 100% cotton, our Stagen
Ibu comes in various lengths, approximately 4.5 meters and 8 meters
long. Each one is individually made using the traditional hand loom.
Perhaps it's the best way of retaining the quality of the weave,
giving an end result of a sturdy fabric that is breatheable. Or
perhaps it is Jogja's way of giving deserving mothers a piece of
art and tradition for the belly that once cradled a precious life.
Either way, we love it and dare you to try it.
How
to use it.
