Why
I do what I do.

About us:
MotherNeeds started out when
I realized the importance of breastfeeding and the benefits associated
with extended breastfeeding.
I wanted to nurse our son (our first; we now have 2!) for as long
as we both are comfortable with it (he weaned at 2-1/2 years old).
As much as I wanted to breastfeed, I didn't like being confined
to home. To keep my sanity, I needed to regain my freedom without
giving up nursing.

I vaguely heard about nursing
clothes, which are designed to help one nurse discreetly. This idea
was entirely new to me. And so I embarked on my quest to buy one
but found that there were just a handful of retailers or merchants
selling decent clothes at affordable prices (ok, so I'm a cheapskate
as I'd rather be spending my money on our little darling).
It was then that I realized that I can actually help mothers like
myself by providing affordable nursing wear. And that was how MotherNeeds
got kick started. I'd like to think of my in-laws in Singapore and
my family in Indonesia, as my infrastructral backbone; because their
help allowed me to get this business started (saved me a lot on
babysitting services when there was somewhere I had to go where
I couldn't take our son).
Our clothes are designed by
myself with some valuable inputs from my mother (who at her age,
looks more stylish than me!). We contracted the help of a few seamstress
friends, who are themselves mothers. Hey, we mothers have to support
one another, right? It is a mutually beneficial
relationship. They are able to understand my needs, and I, their
busy schedules juggling motherhood and work commitments. With this,
our clothes are finally in production!
So when you wear our apparel,
you'd be happy to know that our designs have been tried and tested
by mothers. Adding to that, my attempts at nursing are not exactly
the most successful yet. But wherever I can, I will try my best
to put down my experiences of breastfeeding, and hope that my lesson
learned may be of some help or encouragement to other nursing mothers.
I hope that by starting this business, I'm not simply making a few
bucks for myself, but also positively contributing to the lives
of nursing mothers out there. All the best to mothering!
From our family to yours,
Elnie Linardi
